How to access server from TOAD

I have a doubt as to how to access a Database server from TOAD as the database server is on a private IP of a different LAN system. If, it is on our local LAN, then, we can give the IP of the server in tnsnames.ora. But, how to access a Database server from TOAD of a different network. I hope, my question is clear. Please, help in solving the doubt.
