How secure is data within a sqlnet, jdbc or odbc transaction?

I've recently been asked by security folks if the data flow between the database and the client (sqlplus, etc) is secure.

Is the data transmitted in cleartext or is it encrypted?

Right now, using Oracle 11gr2 server and client tools.
