How Much Is Enough: SGA_MAX_SIZE?

We try to take advantage of total system available memory, which is 16GB and also want to set SGA_TARGET to let Oracle distribute among different pools.

We would like to know what would be the best value for SGA_MAX_SIZE in our case? Our system only runs one Oracle database instance, no other applications running on the same machine (Solaris 10g).
