How many JRE 1.6.0's must I leave installed?
843798Feb 2 2010 — edited Feb 9 2010I've got an HP Pavilion laptop, no TV tuner card that I know of (no inputs for connecting to a tv, if that might enter into things, I have little to no idea), plusa I'm no gamer.
But after a fresh re-install (no Vista disk) where I used the machine's recovery manager and just now looking to complete a disk clean, I noticed in the downloaded programs folder, three of the subject files.
Two of the three JRE 1.6.0 ActiveX version 6.0.50.13 files are something oddly (at least to me) 'a' plug-in for netscape navigator (both same version and time stamp) and since I don't use netscape, might I be better suited in looking to uninstall these ActiveX's. maybe even all three and perhaps (?) install a potentially better suited version of JRE (but I don't even know if upgrading in installed over the top or must the old JRE's be uninstalled first).
The other JRE 1.6.0 ActiveX is described as a Java Platform SE binary, version 6.0.50.13.
Lastly, I've yet to install any updates, but add-remove programs lists a single JRE entry, that being Jave 6 Update 5 (must be an OEM 'update'), but what's kind of odd is that nowhere else does JRE list as being installed, just the 'update 5'. Normal?
While I'm going to allow disk clean to go ahead and expectedly clean the downloaded program files, I'm just guessing that the two yr old laptop, might be better suited with a JRE suited for IE8 (if there is such an animal) and if so, how to go about finding and installing it.
Advanced thanks for any afforded recommendations.
