how make the records 'active' and 'inactive'

hai...

i have a SQL report.... now i want to keep one link as 'Inactive'.... when i click the link i want to freeze that particular record from modification... also the link should be changed to 'Active' again when i click the link the record should bcom active .....

how can i do this....... plz help me out...
