How do I set the path for the environment variable J2EE_HOME ???

I am trying to start the J2EE server by invoking the j2ee.bat file from the command prompt. I have set the parameters in the userconfig.bat file also. But as soon as I say j2ee from the command prompt I get the error message saying "Set the J2EE_HOME to a valid j2sdkee".
My j2sdkee is present under the folder c:\j2sdkee1.2.1. ....
I am new to J2EE....Please tell me how to proceed..
