How do I install Alien package converter on T2 Linux?

I am looking to take a few RPM packages and convert those tar.gz so that I could install those in T2 Linux (Link: http://www.t2-project.org/). T2-Linux does not support RPM. I read about alien package converter and I copied and untarred the alien_8.76.tar.gz (Link: http://kitenet.net/~joey/code/alien/). Then I tried perl Makefile.PL which can be found inside the alien directory. It came back with "BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at Makefile.PL line 2." Can someone please help me get this installed?

Also, if anyone has any ideas on how I could install RPM's on T2, please do let me know.
