How do i install a version of Java

Hello,

I have to make an exercise and they have told us to download the latest version of Java.Although, i have already some versions of Java in my PC.
I have in my Program Files a folder named java which contains the following folders : jdk1.5.0_15, jre1.5.0_15, jre1.5.0_06
Could you please send me a link where i can download the new version of Java?
Also, if i download the latest version of Java do i have to delete the (*jdk1.5.0_15, jre1.5.0_15, jre1.5.0_06*) folders?
I have downloaded netbeans, is netbeans going to work with the new version?
