How do I get Oracle to recognize a database that was created on a usb drive

I am taking an Oracle class. I had installed Oracle 10g on a laptop. I knew I was getting a new laptop, so I create the database on a usb drive. I just received a new laptop and loaded Oracle 10g on that one. Now I need to access the previously created database. How do I do that? I'm new to Oracle, so pardon me for the "stupid" question.
