How can be implemented "row-level-security" in BI Publisher 11g (11.1.1.7.1) ?

Hi :

I’m new with Bi Publisher and I’m looking  a way to do row-level security in BI Publisher (BIP) with a data model based on a SQL directly.

We have done some research and we have not found much so far … just this paper http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-publisher/overview/wp-oracle-bip-row-level-security-132091.pdf

which is a pretty old document showing how to do it with VPD (Virtual Private Databases).

We don’t want to go through that approach … for reporting in BI publisher it would be pretty expensive to maintain it and only works for Oracle databases.

What we are checking is if exists something simple … like to read somehow a variable (get that variable from a SQL in the DB…similarly we are doing in RPD) and use that to filter out the SQL in the data model.

A simple example is a segregation by country for example. I want that the users from US get the information for that country only and so on.

Have you faced the same issue … We have seen that  11.1.1.7.1  has a lot of enhancements … probably exists something now in that version that allow what we are looking for.

Any feedback will be welcome!

Thanks a lot!

Matias
