I’m looking to understand how teams are practically automating Oracle APEX UIs in real-world projects, especially around modal dialogs and file uploads.
We are using Playwright for UI automation and have run into challenges.
Context
- APEX application with modal dialogs rendered via dynamic iframes
- File upload is mandatory for completing a business flow.
Observations so far
- Record & replay is unreliable due to transient DOM and timing
- Full UI automation of upload dialogs is extremely flaky.
My questions to the community
- How are you automating APEX UIs in practice?
- Do you attempt to automate file upload dialogs, or treat them as non-automatable?
- Are you using backend seeding / pre-created artifacts for uploads?
- Have you found any Oracle-recommended or community-accepted patterns for UI automation in APEX?
- Are there any official or unofficial guidelines on what should vs should not be automated in APEX?
I’m not looking for a “one size fits all” answer — more interested in what has proven stable and maintainable for teams running APEX in CI/CD.
