hot backup

hi,

when the tablespace is in hot backup mode, SCN of the corresponding datafiles will freeze until the backup ends.

i read some where like "even though the SCN number is freeze, the data will be continuously written down to datafile during hot backup mode and SCN will be updated once the backup ends"

is this correct?can any one explain it briefly.
