Horizontal Navigation Menu with Icon?

I've setup a horizontal Navigation Menu and have assigned "image/class" value for some of the list entries (referencing a Font Awesome icon). They do not appear on the nav menu in the app. They display on a vertical nav menu.

Is there a way to get the icons to appear on the horizontal menu?
