High CPU Usage

Hi,

Just to give you a background so you're not too frustraded with this post, I'm a developer and not a DBA. I am incharge of a Oracle XE database and need some help on the DBA side of things.

Every so oftern, when I view the CPU processes (top in Linux) Oracle (PID = 1654, user = oracle) uses all free CPU. This means it runs around 99.9% utlization. The only time it goes down is if I run a query or start browseing a page in APEX, the back up again. Basically it's taking all system idle time.

Usually after a day or so this process will start hogging the CPU and never goes down. I have checked all the sessions and none is asigned to that PID so I don't think this is a client problem, more server.

That's as far as I can get on my own. I'm wondering if someone can please let me know how to find out what is causing this problem, and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance
