Hidden IR columns searchable?

I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to make hidden columns searchable? I would like to have a hidden column full of tags but I don't want it show.

I've tried changing the column type to "hidden" and that did not work I also tried removing the column from the IR but that didn't work either.

Please let me know.
