HFM vs Essbase for Consolidations

We currently use HFM to consolidate. We are strictly an US based company and all I/C eliminations are being done in Oracle. Our HFM sysadmin (who was an Essbase user in a previous life) feels that using Essbase for consolidations would accomplish the same thing and be easier to maintain. Can anyone give me any insight as to what we may lose by using Essbase instead of HFM for consolidations?
