HFM load balancing

787666Mar 15 2011 — edited Mar 15 2011
Hi,

We are on v11.1.1.2 of Hyperion Financial Management, we have 7 servers, 1 for Shared Services, workspace services and FR Client, 1 for FDM, 1 for SQL, 2 for Web services (workspace, epma etc) and 2 for application server.

1. Currently we have application load balancing on our Application servers, but we have picked up that it looks like that load balancing only splits the users as they come in between the servers, with no logic if the server is down or if 1 has a lot of strain move all to the other server as it comes in. There is Normal server load balancing on the 2 servers used for web services and that we can pick up looks at availability etc.
1.1. Can you explain how the application load balancing works
1.2. Can normal server load balancing be used?
1.3. Is there any server load balancing that must be set to get the application one to work optimal, what I have read it is quite straight forward where you just install and configure the servers that works together?
1.4. Is there a best practice document to this?

2. User Desktops
2.1. Is there a minimum requirement for users to use HFM? Keep in mind that we have users that use SSL VPN to access, eg. Must have at least 20g hard drive left on pc or must have a 2g ram etc? We just want to ensure that slow response can not be due to the actual users desktop/pc.

Any help or guidance will be appreciated.
Dylan
