Help with OBIEE and PeopleSoft / EBS integration

GreigSep 18 2012 — edited Sep 20 2012
Hi all,

I hope I am posting in the correct forum for this.

I have the below setup at the office, and need some clarity on the integration between OBIEE and PeopleSoft HR / EBS:

1. VM that has the following on it:
a. x64 Oracle Enterprise Linux Rel 5.8.
b. Oracle 11g (11.2.0.3) DB
c. Weblogic 10.3.6
d. OBIEE (Oracle BI Foundation Suite) x64 for Linux (11.1.1.6) - Simple Install

2. On my business laptop I connect to the VM. I have installed the following on the laptop:
a. Repository Creation Utility (11.1.1.6.0) for windows - I then created the two schema's as required (DEV_MDS and DEV_BIPLATFORM) to the DB residing on the Linux VM (using sys as SYSDBA).
b. I then installed BIEE client Tools on my laptop (this installed Administration, Catalog Manager and Job Manager). This step was per the postinstallation tasks.

I can successfully log into OBIEE as default user "weblogic" and can see the dashboard (default settings - I haven't yet changed anything). I have even created an automated script that starts my DB, Weblogic and OBIEE services when the Linux VM is booted / restarted.

My issue comes in when attempting to understand the integration between OBIEE and Peoplesoft. I have another 2 VM's (1 on Linux and 1 on Win) that has my PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.52.06 install on it (running HR 9.1) as a complete environment. How do I get my OBIEE environment to "talk" to my Peoplesoft (demo) environment? I would literally just want to make use of OBIEE as a proof of concept against my demo environment that I have setup, but I fail to find the link between deploying OBIEE and integrating other Oracle tools with it.

I also cannot find much 11g documentation, other than the Fusion Middleware Documentation Library (11.1.1.6) - which I downloaded with OBIEE and a bunch of white papers geared at presales and sales.
I understand that there is an OBI User guide and Admin guide, but what is the starting point in terms of "talking" to PeopleSoft through OBIEE? Do I need to use the Administration client tool to create a repository for Peoplesoft? How do I do this? ODBC? This is where I get confused...
I understand that I need to tell OBIEE to go and look for data sources, but how do I do this with a fully operational Peoplesoft environment?

Am I losing the plot?

Apologies for the large amount of questions and rhetoric - I am hoping that you will be able to understand where I am stuck based on it all :)
If i am indeed being ignorant on my approach to OBIEE and the integration thereof with other tools, please let me know lightly and nudge me in the right direction!

Appreciate any response with regards to the above.

Regards,
Greig
