Help with ASM and discovery path

MartinJEvansMay 10 2012 — edited May 10 2012
Hi,

I'm following the guide at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/hunter-rac11gr2-iscsi-3-088680.html and currently installing oracle grid infrastucture. This test RAC system is on 2 Oracle Unbreakable Linux 6.2 systems. I've set up my iSCSI disks and run oracleasm createdisk for CRSVOL1, DATAVOL1 and FRAVOL1 such that oracleasm listdisks shows:

CRSVOL1
DATAVOL1
FRAVOL1

and

$ ls -la /dev/oracleasm/disks/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 May 9 17:04 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 May 9 17:04 ..
brw-rw---- 1 oracle oinstall 8, 81 May 9 17:04 CRSVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 oracle oinstall 8, 97 May 9 17:04 DATAVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 oracle oinstall 8, 113 May 9 17:04 FRAVOL1

I'm on the screen "Create ASM Disk Group" and the guide suggests entering ORCL:CRSVOL1 for the discovery path but unlike the picture in the guide this shows me no candidate disks. I don't really understand that discovery path. If I change the path to "/dev/oraclasm/disks/CRSVOL1" I get one candidate disk unlike the guide which shows all 3. This suggested to me I've done something wrong.

I ran Cluster Verification and passed.

Any ideas?

Thanks
