help! csv import: inserted value too large for column

626608Jul 8 2008 — edited Jul 8 2008
I have been getting "inserted value too large for column" when I try to do a csv import. I have used excel's "clean" function on all the large columns to get rid of hard returns. I was attempting to import csv file w/ 3600 rows, was getting that error, and it didn't import the data at all.

In an attempt to find the offending row, I split the file into 4 files of 900 rows each. When I tried to import the first file, the same thing happened as w/ the huge file.... same error, and no data imported .

Interestingly, with the 2nd file, 844 records got imported and 56 failed. As an example from the import details (click on failed):

ORA-01401: inserted value too large for column
Row 597:
355,Order chair parts for broken conference room chairs,Mac Russell,10/16/2003,,STP,140,,,Amy Smith,,,,,,$700.48 ,589,,Kevin Hert,37023,,COMPLETED,Mac Russell,34408,3,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,PO#1140011111 was issued on 11/14/03. Project to facilities on 12/1/03 Furniture to ship on 1/5/04,,,$352.20 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Planning and Design,12/1/2003,,,FALSE,,,,,,,,,,,FALSE,FALSE,,,,,,,,FALSE

Why would some get imported this time while before, none got imported?

Why doesn't it tell me which row is the culprit? I can't keep splitting this csv file more and more!

thanks,

~darby
