Help a graduate get a java job!
807607Jul 26 2006 — edited Oct 18 2006Hi folks,
Firstly, I apologise if this is in the wrong forum; it seemed odd to put it in the total beginners forum, since I am a computer science graduate who has been using java on and off for the last 4 years.
I graduated a month ago, and I am now looking for a job as a developer. On paper I look great - 1st class degree. However, as I'm sure those of you who have graduated recently can sympathise with, there were alot of 'academic' modules like Formal Methods and Artificial Intelligence which contained no Java whatsoever - so whilst I have a sound understanding of object oriented programming principles I don't have a massive knowledge and experience of Java.
Some stuff I do know about is:
All the basics...Objects/Abstraction/Inheretence/Polymorphism ect...
Concurrent Programming/Threads
Networking/Sockets
GUI/Swing
Serializer/Saving to files ect....
I have an interview for a graduate java developer job next week - does anyone have any tips on what I could look over for this interview? Important subjects I don't know anything about yet or recent java developments?
