HDFS filesystem permission

Hi,

I would like to know why I am getting permission denied when I execute 'touch test01.txt' in hdfs home directory:

/var/lib/hadoop-hdfs

-bash-4.2$ touch test01.txt

touch: cannot touch ‘test01.txt’: Permission denied

Also , I would like to know on what storage is our HDFS?
