Hard drive in Sun Ultra 2

807557Jun 9 2006 — edited Jun 10 2006
Hi all!

I recently inherited a Sun Ultra 2 Workstation with a SEAGATE ST34371W SUN4.2G7462 Hard Drive. I'm attempting to install Gentoo Linux on it, however, when I boot from CD, I get the following error message when Gentoo attempts to detect my drive:

scsi0 : Sparc ESP366-HME
Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST34371W SUN4.2G Rev: 7462
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: XM5701TASUN12XCD Rev: 0997
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 1, lun 0
esp0: target 1 [period 100ns offset 15 20.00MHz FAST-WIDE SCSI-II]
sda: Spinning up disk...........................................................
............................................not responding...
sda : READ CAPACITY failed.
sda : status = 0, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 28

A "test scsi" returns the following output:

ok test scsi
CE DMA fill from address fff78000 for 80 bytes ERROR: DMA Hang conditi
on detected
ERROR: DMA Hang condition detected
ERROR: DMA failed
Address fff76001
Expected 1
Observed 0
Timeout wait for terminal count

scsi selftest failed. Return code = -1

Could anyone shed any light as to what my problem could be? Thanks much.
