Group by quarter

Hi my requirement is as follows. I have a date clumn and one id (primary key). I need to get the count of date
- based on quarter for 8 quarters
- current quarter , 4 future quarters, 3 past quarters
- Q3-2011,Q4-2011,Q1-2012*Q2-2012*,Q3-2012,Q4-2012,Q1-2014

Please help me with ur suggestions and inputs
