Java SE (Java Platform, Standard Edition)

Hi all,

A few weeks ago i had a weird problem with java while running version 1.4 in that when ever i tried to display and swing or awt components i would just get a grey screen with nothing displaying (the location and size of the window was correct, just nothing displaying).

I managed to get around this problem at the time by installing the jdk1.5 and this worked fine for about 4 weeks, then this morning ive just tried to run some code and ive got the same problem again. Last night the code was working fine, however this morning im getting the grey screen again. Ive tried running the code on another computer and it displays on that computer fine!.

So i thought just re-install the jdk again, however i now am unable to do that as the installer is also suffering from the same problem, in that when it opens i get a nice grey window with nothing else displaying and am unable to install!.

Im running on Windows XP Pro, SP1 (sorry wont touch SP2, broke to much when i last tried it). Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how i could get java working again on this computer?.
