Granting a one year license to a customer on an Apex application

Im looking for a simple way (my customer is not really a hacker) to prompt the customer with a license key code every year. The basic requirements would be:
- I can generate a key which contains the expiration date
- The apex application I deployed on the customer server can validate this key and set the new expiration date
- The customer can't easily generate his own key.
Any Idea?
