GoldenGate on IBM DB2 z/OS

3776134May 2 2020 — edited May 5 2020

Hi all,

We're trying to install GoldenGate  (GG) for the DB2 version 11.1 on z/OS version 2.2 following the documentation below.

https://docs.oracle.com/cd/F22974_01/installing/installing-oracle-goldengate.pdf

We have some questions and really appreciate if anyone who has experience doing this on DB2 z/OS can share their feedback.

On page 5-3 of the above installation document, it stated that to connect to DB2 z/OS, can use any of the following connectivity options:

• DB2 Connect v10.5 or greater

• IBM Data Server Driver for ODBC and CLI v10.5 or greater

• IBM Data Server Client v10.5 or greater

• IBM Data Server Runtime Client v10.5 or greater

Our questions are:

1) What if any licensing requirement to use any of the above products for connecting to the IBM DB2 z/OS. For example, is licensed DB2 connect product required per IBM link below.

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPGG_11.1.0/com.ibm.db2.luw.apdv.cli.doc/doc/r0024162.html

2) While the source is DB2 on z/OS, the target is Oracle 19c database on Exadata.  We read that for GoldenGate starting version 12c, there is  remote execution feature which requires IBM DB2 LUW to be installed. However, per (our understanding of) Exadata product licensing requirement, no product other than Oracle databases can be installed onto Exadata box. Hence we cannot use this remote execution approach, but to install the GoldenGate directly onto the z/OS. Is our understanding and approach correct? If so, can anyone please share what are the steps to install GoldenGate 19c on z/OS platform.  We have gone over numerous times the Oracle GoldenGate 19c documentation but it only refers to remote execution approach. Googling also does not seem much of help.

Really appreciate responses to our questions here, thank you in advance.

Regards,

Sam D.
