go_item in WHEN-CUSTOM-ITEM-EVENT trigger

Dear Exparts,

My oracle form version is 10gr2 version 10.1.2.3

I have a java bean calendar attached in several button. where the selected date goes are define at When-Button-Press trigger and it's work fine.
After selection of date from calendar focus goes back to respective(called) button.

But i want to send the focus to a text item not the the button.

For this i write go_item () at WHEN-CUSTOM-ITEM-EVENT trigger attached to the bean. Result nothing hapend.

i tried with timer. all goes vain..

Any help will appriciated.
