GMT to EST conversion is suppose to be GMT -5 hours
Background
Currently we are facing the stamp issue due to the conversion between GMT and local timing (EST or Canada). Currently server is running in BST hours. We have a profile setup up in Oracle for Server time zone at GMT hours and Client time-zone for Canada in EST hours. Time difference between EST hours & GMT is 5 hours, ie GMT – 5hrs.
Issue
But conversion between EST and GMT in Oracle server is happening for 4 hours i.e (GMT – 4hrs)
Scenario
· Ordered Date for the Order Number # 10017334 is 04:AUG:2008 17:25:45 EST – Refer the Screen Shot 1
· Creation Date for the Order number # 10017334 is 04:AUG:2008 09:25:50 PM (BST) & Order date is 04:AUG:2008 09:25:45 PM (BST) – Refer the Screen Shot 2
· Oracle Datebase time when order created - 04:AUG:2008 09:29:55 PM (BST) – Creation date and oracle DB date matches. No issues here.
· Oracle Profile Option – Server Timezone at site level has been set as (GMT+ 00:00) GMT
· Oracle Profile Option – Client Timezone at responsibility level has been set as (GMT – 5:00) GMT
As per the profile option, Conversion between GMT to EST is 5 hours. Order date in the database is 04:AUG:2008 09:25:50 PM. Based on profile option it should be displayed on the front end as 04:AUG:2008 04:25:45 PM EST (GMT -5 hours) but it is displayed as 04:AUG:2008 05:25:45 EST (GMT – 4 hours).
We need do analysis that why Server time has been set in BST and oracle profile option in GMT. This issue has been initially identified for Canada, it will be applicable for LA & APAC. I guess there is not much noise from Europe since all the countries are almost in similar time (1 or 2 hours ahead).
