getting current selected value of LOV?

hi Everyone,

I have a page with one LOV and and button.
i want to select the current selected value of LOV and On click of the button i want to display it on the screen.
I have included unselected label property of the LOV to "Please select any value".

What code shold i write to get in the button bean to get the current value?
if user selects the unseleted label then i should get null?
Any suggestions will be really useful.
