get the entered date value on the same jsp page to compare with other dates

I have to select a date from the calander and then on the same jsp page as per the selected date i will need to display the records of that perticular selected date.
I think i will need a javascript but how to get the value back from javascript to jsp so that i can use that value to compare with the values in the resultset.
