Generic Connectivity to DB2 on z/OS

516093Jun 2 2006 — edited Feb 5 2007
Hello;

We started to plan for a migration of z/OS DB2 database to Oracle (either 9 or 10g).
One of the options we consider to migrate data from DB2 to Oracle is to use Heterogeneous Connectivity. From what I read, Transparent Gateways offer a native support for z/OS DB2, however, we are also interested in Generic Connectivity.

10.1g Admin Guide seems to suggest that Generic Connectivity is not available for z/OS DB2 "ODBC agents are supported on Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, and Windows NT platforms. OLE DB agents are supported only on the Windows NT platform.", yet at the same time there are treads in this forum that suggest that few people have used it.

I hope that somebody can answer the following questions:

is it possible to use Generic Connectivity for an AIX Oracle 9 or 10 installation to z/OS DB2 v7 ? We already have an ODBC driver on z/OS USS (Unix System Services) side of the box.

if in fact this can be done, would that connectivity be an appropriate tool for a data conversion processes ? Oracle ddl will be already in place. Size of the database is roughly 150G data.

Also, has any of you used the Transparent Gateway for a similar project ?

Thanks in advance;

George
