GDA Conversion - A public thankyou
Folks,
At Forestry Tasmania this last weekend (June 6th-10th 2003) we completed the conversion of all our GIS datasets from AMG55 (UTM Zone 55) based on Australia Geodetic Datum 1966 (AGD66) to the MGA55 coordinates based on the new Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94).
This was not an easy task and something I don't want to have to do again in what remains of my working life as a GIS Manager!
However, central to our conversion work was Safe Software's Feature Manipulation Engine (http://www.safe.com/products/fme/index.htm) and Geometry Pty Ltd's SpatialLoaderPlus http://www.geometryit.com/web/products/spatialLoaderAdvanced.php).
Both products performed flawlessly and we can't help but be impressed by the quality of the software. We relied heavily on them this last weekend and they did not let us down.
If anyone is faced with doing similar work, or want tools that, in my opinion, are a must have for any GIS team, then check out their products and consider purchasing them. Indispensible is how I would describe them.
(This endorsement of FME and SpatialLoaderPlus is personal and not an official endorsement from Forestry Tasmania.)
