Gateway m275 Intel Video Card Install Issue

807559Apr 12 2005 — edited Apr 13 2005
I am attempting to install Solaris 10 on my Gateway m275xl laptop, and I am having some trouble getting the X86 software working.

1- Solaris autodetects the wrong information
-Says I have a 17" monitor, when it is 14"
-Uses XF86-I810 Intel Corp 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device
(which doesn't work in the test feature of kdmconfig)
-Thinks my screen resolution should be 1280x1024
(This should be 1024x768)
2- I can edit all of these in kdmconfig by pressing ESC during the
install process, and choose
-XF86-VESA Intel Corp. 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device
-Up to 1024x768 interlaced resolution
-14" LCD screen
-1024x768 - 16mil colors

This will test and show the image, and it will give me the graphical installer. All should be good, everything installs.

But, when I go to boot up the first time, it is as if my display settings got erased and it went back to the bad ones. The graphical log-in just freezes the computer as soon as it trys to start. Exactly the same thing happens if the wrong display settings are entered.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I can get to the command line logged in as the root user. I was able to run /usr/sbin/kdmconfig and get the test image up.

Thanks.
