From Windows XP Home to Oracle XE Database on a Linux Suse Imp.

I have installed the XE Database on a Linux Server which took about 5 minutes after downloading - extremely easy - thanks to Oracle.

Through apex I have opened up for clients on the same network to access the DB.

The network-card on the Unix-box is configured to IP 192.168.1.3 the fact its running a Web Server as well.

I am quite able to access the DB apex interface from the server, but when it comes to accessing it from my XP (IP 192.168.1.15), its a totally different story....!

I can't seem to reach the DB with http://192.168.1.3:8080/apex/ from my XP !

I must admit, I have NOT installed any Oracle Client Software on my XP - eventhough I have been looking for it everywhere....can't find any Client Software for XP Home....and what I've heard - XP should bee able to connect with its own ODBC driver....but nothing happens... Microsoft Explorer times out.... :-(

Has anyone an explanation or a good advise - maybe even a link to the Client Software for XP - if its nessasary....!

Regards

Peter
