Oracle 11g R2 on Linux OS.
Intend to use two disks for FRA, i.e., +FRA1 and +FRA2 (which will hold the scheduled backups of the data files, the archived logs, multiplexed online logs and the control files).
There are two ways to format the FRA disks:
1) Format the disk as Linux x83 raw disk
2) Format the disk as ext3 file system
My understanding is that regardless which method to use, the RMAN will take care of all the chores while the Oracle will take care of all the multiplexed files. The difference is that in a ext3 file system, I can go to the directory and see the backed file such as x.dbf, y.log, z.ctl, etc, while for the Linux x83 system, I will not be able to do so except via PL/SQL command. Other than that they are the same.
Is this a correct understanding? Please correct or add on your opinion.
Also, like to know your opinion on formatting the FRA1 as Linux x83 system, while FRA2 as the ext3 file system (so to use two file system)?
Thanks
Scott
