We have a Form with a big text item with is about 6 inches wide and 5 inches in height.
The user has a button below it which when pressed we auto generate a big text.
Problem come when it comes to formatting. One section of the big text is below:
CONVICTIONS for OFFENCES
(confirm victim committed offences within a designated family relationship) -
02 X Stalking
01 X Stupefying in order to Commit an Indictable Offence
01 X Killing on Provocation
03 X Threats to Destroy, Damage, Endanger or Harm Property
The above works fine and shows each offence in one line.
Problem is, some offences goes to over 200 characters when this happens we get our section like this:
CONVICTIONS for SFVO OFFENCES (Confirmed)
(confirm victim committed offences within a designated family relationship) -
2 X Stalking
1 X Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation or racial Aggravation; Criminal Code (WA); Section
313 (1)(a)
1 X Killing on Provocation
3 X Threats to Destroy, Damage, Endanger or Harm Property
I.e. The excess that cannot be supported by the 6 inch width of the text box goes to the next line this
is not just ugly but difficult for officers to read.
How do you solve problem like this in in Forms?
There is only a "Show Vertical Scroll Bar" property for text items. No "horizontal" one.
I can programmatically break up the offence name string into 2 and show like below:
CONVICTIONS for SFVO OFFENCES (Confirmed)
(confirm victim committed offences within a designated family relationship) -
2 X Stalking
1 X Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation or racial Aggravation; Criminal Code (WA);
Section 313 (1)(a)
1 X Killing on Provocation
3 X Threats to Destroy, Damage, Endanger or Harm Property
But the problem is, I don't know how much to substring from the offence name since different characters, i.e.
upper and lower case and numeric and characters like (,), - etc take up different widths.
What is solution to a problem like this?
