Foot pedal

Hi ,
We have developed a dictation Applet using which you can Record and play back dictations , i would like to enhance it functionality by adding foot pedal , Can anybody tell me how i can use foot pedal in java.Are we suppose to use SDK provided by foot pedal in applet or can we use java communication API for this purpose .
Which is the easy and fast way.If anybody know any foot pedal have SDK please inform me .
