Flickering dialog boxes

I am connecting remotely to a Linux box through putty, and using Hummingbird Exceed to interact with the SunStudio IDE. When I open any dialog for example New | Project, the dialog flickers indefinitely which makes Sun Studio unusable. When I run Sun Studio locally on the machine there is no problem. I am able to successfully run Sun Studio remotely with one Red Hat Linux box, but it's an issue on another 2. Does anyone know what might cause this problem?
