Fishworks like setup without the appliance

807739Feb 26 2010 — edited Mar 1 2010
Saw a demonstration of the Sun 7310 the other day. The software being used which I think they called Fishworks is basically like ZFS along with dtrace used on the appliance using dram, SSD and SATA drives.

The whole thing was pretty cool with the exception of AIX support for the upcoming release of Fibre connections.

The whole time I watched the demo of the software I was thinking about replacing my FreeNAS box at home with something similar. I've been thinking of doing something like that for a while. Nothing really wrong with FreeNAS, but the ability to do snapshots on time intervals, on the fly etc... is inviting.

Curious if anyone has been working on a package setup that does something like what is being done with "fishworks" but for non-appliance setups (no Dram/SSD drives) on a low end box setup.

I've seen a few postings where people have built a Solaris10 ZFS NAS, but nothing on a coordinated basis.
