First compilation

Could someone please tell me in the plainest english known to man, why when I run the Hello World program from the dos prompt, I get a
error :can't read :Hello.java
1 error
What I've done is typed the exact code into Microsoft Word, saved it under the bin file in my general JDK directory as Hello.java, then tried to run it from the appropriate prompt in dos - c:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin, and it comes up with that! I've changed the classpath, which is what someone has said to me before, so it has to be something different. What am I doing wrong?
