Financial Reporting Web Studio - Speed Improvements?

FRWS is a slow as molasses and very temperamental. Previewing reports works about 3/4 times (to HTML), members selection does not often include all options (notables substitution variables) and takes 2-3 loads to finally get them all to show.
Version 11.1.2.4 (which I think is the latest version).
I'm guessing that this is a java application. My local java install is 1.8.0_261.
Any ideas on how to improve responsiveness and performance of FRWS?
