Field protected against update

have a view that I can directly, thru TOAD, insert and update just fine. When I go thru Forms I get the error: "Field protected against update". I have checked the form item and block completely and the field is set as updateable.
If I turn that view into a table with the same name as the view it works just fine thru Forms. Any suggestions?
