Fast Recovery Area Full

It seems that our Fast Recovery Area has become full, and EM will not connect. We currently have no RMAN backups set up, which has obviously caused the problem and I think what has happened is that the drive has become full with Archive logs. My question is what is the next step to clear out the space. Do I need to backup to a tertiary location and then set up and run a deletion policy?
Also how can I see what the parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST is set to, I can find loads of information on changing it but none on how in RMAN to view it.
