Fails to login to Oracle with new created user credentials ???...

Hi,

I need your advice regarding an issue that just does not make sense to me. I have successfully created a 11G database with the usual accounts SYS, SYSTEM, SYSMAN etc... and they all work fine. However, when I create a new user with SQL developer, the new account fails when trying to log in. It gives an ORA 01017. I have a user name as 'test' and pwd '1234' to make sure it is not something to do with the caps lock....

The SID is correct, the TNS is correct, Oracle is up etc....

I don't think it has anything to do with SQL developer either, but it is my preferred tool and I am hoping that you can give me some pointers as to what could be wrong... Same problem with the SQL Plus command lines....
