Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configuration

I have seen this question in many forums, but I have yet to find a useful answer.

I am installing OCFS2 on a 2 node Redhat cluster
$uname -a
Linux server 2.6.9-42.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jul 12 23:32:02 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have added 2 SAN LUNS of 100GB each to a logical volume on and mounted it on /u03.

I tried to install the clusterwware and when i get to the section that asks me to run the scripts as root, I get the following error on the second node (the one from which OUI was not run):

$ sudo /home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/root.sh
WARNING: directory '/home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0' is not owned by root
WARNING: directory '/home/oracle/oracle/product' is not owned by root

Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configuration

I know that there are a lot of people who have run into this, but I haven't found anyone who has solved it.

I found a few articles that say just to wait 5 mins and rerun, but I have waited 5 min with no luck. I waited another 5 min and still no luck. it's been about 5 hours now and still no luck.

I would GREATLY appreciate any help you can offer.
