Failed to create ASM instance with ASMLib

kozloneJun 11 2017 — edited Jun 13 2017

Hello all,

I'm trying to configure ASM instance with ASMLib, but it is totally unaffordable to me. I've already configured ASM but with udev and there weren't any issues.

OS: Oracle Linux 7

Oracle software version - 12.1.0.2

id oracle

uid=1101(oracle) gid=1003(oinstall) groups=1003(oinstall),1201(asmdba),1202(asmoper),1001(dba),1301(oper)

There are 2 disks for ASM:

Disk /dev/sdb: 12.9 GB, 12884901888 bytes, 25165824 sectors

Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Disk label type: dos

Disk identifier: 0x549f17c9

   Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System

/dev/sdb1            2048    25165823    12581888   83  Linux

Disk /dev/sdc: 6442 MB, 6442450944 bytes, 12582912 sectors

Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Disk label type: dos

Disk identifier: 0x999efff8

   Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System

/dev/sdc1            2048    12582911     6290432   83  Linux

oracleasm-support package was installed.

Next:

# /usr/sbin/oracleasm init

# /usr/sbin/oracleasm configure -i

# oracleasm createdisk DATA1 /dev/sdb1

# oracleasm createdisk FRA1 /dev/sdc1

# oracleasm listdisks

DATA1

FRA1

Then, I've started runInstaller from grid binaries directory and chose Install and configure Grid infrastructure for a standalone server.

While configuring ASM disks I've faced with a problem that there are no candidate disks. Discovery string was setup to 'ORCL:*'

I've checked permissions of /dev/oracleasm, and found that it was root:root. Set them to oracle:oinstall. It didn't changed anything.

So, then I've changed discovery string to '/dev/oracleasm/disks/*' And it worked!

So, I've added DATA1 disk with External redundancy. Installation proccess ran good until the last step.

Here is the log:

Yes, I see that there are insufficient privileges but I'm not sure which one should be for /dev/sd* in my case.

I've tried to setup ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then rerun the command above, but it gives the same errors.

I hope that someone can shed the light on this. Looks like I've missed something.
