failed Solaris 8 install with 40 gig Maxtor Drive
807559Mar 19 2002 — edited Mar 19 2002I recently bought a 40gb Maxtor 7200rpm drive to install int my ULTRA 10 box. The first time I attempted to install solaris 8 from the cd rom using "boot cdrom" command I got an error message telling me that "the filr judt loaded does not appear to be executable" I thought is was the CD-rom, but "boot cdrom -s" works fine. Now int single user mode I try to format the drive, but when I look at the partition info I only see a partition named "backup" which is about 5.78gb, the for mat utility wont even allow me to change the drive geometry. I also ran the "probe-ide" and "devalias" seems ok there. But I can't seem to do any thing with the drive. I also put the drive into a windows 2k machine to make sure it was fuctioning ....and no problem. From reading the various post on the web, It seems that most people are able to get the install to work, but I dont even get past the booting phase with the cd (I verifyied that the media is operational). I am new to solaris, please help.
I also tried dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/c......
Thanks in advance.
