Extended RAC and Netapp Metrocluster

Paolo GrifaSep 24 2014 — edited Sep 26 2014

Hi everybody,

I have been searching for days, but could not find anything related to extended rac using Metrocluster Netapp.

At the moment we are testing an extended rac based on two hosts and two storages HP EVA8400 using ASM mirroring feature (normal redundancy).

It is working well, but now we have got a proposal from Netapp. They say that with Metrocluster we can avoid asm mirroring and use just the netapp features.

We are not really sure about this, because I cannot understand what does happen if fiber communication between the two netapp storage fall.

From what I can understand the storage mirroring between the two sites will stop, but RAC will continue working because each host will continue to find a copy of all their disks. So we will have a typical "split brain" situation.

Does anybody have any experience about this?

Thanks a lot

PG
