Extended cluster Vs Data Guard (costs vs benefits)

Hi all,

The business is demanding minimum downtime (fast failover <5mins)to the DR site is also wanting to utilise the dormant hartdware that is in the DR site.

There is a distance of 15km between the two sites.

I am thinking of proposing Oracle RAC extended clustering as an option as I am not sure if DG can archive failover to secondary site within 5mins.

Also, if RAC is running across two sites then is DG really required?.
